Project roles
From Clarizen
Clarizen Users are dynamically assigned roles in Projects when they are added to Projects.
A specific user may have multiple roles within a project or across multiple projects, and can easily filter through work items based on their given roles.
Note:
*Users with Special Permissions have elevated (view & edit) access across all projects, whereas External Users will have more limited access.

Project Manager
Project Managers of any given project in Clarizen have the ability to access all scheduling and resourcing aspects of a project including the project calendar, project settings, project baseline and resource assignment.
Project managers can View and Modify all Work Items within their assigned Project including, and not limited to, the percentage completion and any public collaboration items.
The creator of the Project is set as Project Manager by default, and can then reassign another user as Project Manager to the project.
(Work Item) Manager
Managers can be assigned to specific work items or sub projects within a project and have the ability to continue the work breakdown structure for their chunk of the project.
Generally speaking, a Work Item Manager is responsible for assigning their team resources to individual tasks within their project chunk.
This means that a manager can be set to a milestone or an hammock (task with sub-tasks), and therefore has rights to change the work plan from the parent item in the hierarchy and below
Like Project Managers, managers of specific work items have access to the work item scheduling aspects including the settings and resource assignment.
Note that Projects also have a Manager, separate from the overall Project Manager, so that a project may have several sub projects, each with it's own Manager but sharing the same overall Project Manager.
Resources
In Clarizen, a Resource can be any User in the system - all Resources are visible via the Resources tab.
A Project Manager or a Manager can assign Resources to their relevant work item.
A Resource can be assigned with a specific percentage of time dedicated to the specific work item.
A Project Manager can create a project pool first, from which resources will be assigned to the project. Otherwise, a resource can be assigned from the global organization wide pool by either the Project Manager or work item Manager.
Resources have the ability to:
- view the Project structure of the work items they are assigned to
- add Collaboration items: Notes, Posts, Emails for any work items in the Project structure
- view Documents attached to any work items in the Project structure
- update task progress (% Completed and/or Actual and Remaining Effort fields) for Tasks they are assigned to
- attach Documents for work items they are assigned to
- update Timesheets and Expenses for work items they are assigned to
- (depending on system settings) break down their assigned work items into sub-tasks.
Reviewers
A Reviewer is a person that does not take any active role in the project, but is given the ability to view the full project as a supervisor or assurer that the right infrastructure is in place for the project to be carried out.
Reviewers cannot change anything in the Project, however they can:
- view the Project structure of the work items they are assigned to
- add Collaboration items: Notes, Posts, Emails for any work items in the Project structure
- view Documents attached to any work items in the Project structure
Reviewers can only be added via the Resources Info Card on the right side of the Current Project screen - and reviewers can be assigned a Reviewer Role which describes the reason for their involvement.
